Reading exercises for logical-mathematical learners of English

We are not all the same. According to Howard Gardner, creator of the Multiple Intelligences (MI) Theory, we all have personal intelligence profiles that consist of combinations different intelligence types. An important message of the MI Theory is this: if education is to work as effectively as possible, teachers should take into account their learners' MI profiles rather than ignore them.

During the workshop participants will work with reading exercises that are particularly attractive to logical-mathematical language learners. This type of learner is one of the eight (or nine) intelligence types that Gardner identifies and describes in his MI Theory. As the name indicates, logical-mathematical learners are particularly fond of logical reasoning and numbers. They especially enjoy tasks that involve problem solving, finding patterns, categorising words and objects, completing brain teasers, and asking 'why' questions. The exercises presented include jigsaw reading exercises, deductive reading exercises, projective reading exercises, reactive reading exercises, random reading exercises and, finally, combinations of these.
